Al Hilal SC of Sudan came away with a 1-1 draw against Morocco’s RS Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals on Saturday night, March 14, 2026, in Morocco.
Omer Taha gave Al Hilal an early lead in the 13th minute, and the Sudanese side looked set to secure a crucial away victory. However, the match turned in stoppage time when defender Steven Ebuela fouled in the penalty area. After a VAR review, Ebuela was shown a red card, and RS Berkane converted the resulting penalty to level the score.
The late goal and red card were a setback for Al Hilal, but the away goal keeps their hopes alive for the return leg. Some spectators questioned the referee’s decision, calling the foul soft. The red card was Al Hilal’s fourth in the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League campaign.
Taha’s goal was his fifth in the tournament, reinforcing his status among the competition’s leading scorers.
The return leg will take place at Stade Amahoro in Kigali on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Al Hilal will need a win or a draw of 1-1 or higher to secure a place in the semifinals, keeping fans on edge for a thrilling conclusion to the quarter-final tie.
