Authorities in Nyanza District have launched a manhunt for a man in his early 20s suspected of sexually abusing a goat before fleeing the scene.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred late last week in Nyamivumu A village, Mushirarungu cell, Rwabicuma sector.
Speaking to UMUNOTA, the goat’s owner said he found the suspect in the act after returning from grazing his livestock. The suspect reportedly fled immediately when confronted.
“The goat had visible injuries and was bleeding,” the owner said, adding that he raised an alarm, prompting residents and local leaders to respond, but the suspect managed to escape.
Local authorities have since confirmed that efforts to track down the suspect are ongoing.
“We conducted a search but did not find him. The hunt continues,” said the village leader of Nyamivumu A.
Residents describe the suspect as a known troublemaker, with allegations of theft and drug use, particularly cannabis, which they say has repeatedly disrupted community security.
Experts in behavioral science link such acts to a psychological condition known as zoophilia, or bestiality, often associated with underlying mental health challenges, including trauma and disorders affecting normal human sexual behavior.
The case has raised concern among residents, with calls for swift action to ensure accountability and safeguard community standards.
