Marines FC delivered a dominant display to defeat Mukura VS&L 3–1 at Umuganda Stadium on Saturday, boosting their position in the Rwanda Premier League standings.
Mukura started brightly, pressing high and earning multiple early corners, but failed to convert their early dominance into goals. Their best chance in the opening minutes was denied by a sharp save from Marines goalkeeper Irambona Vally.
The hosts quickly grew into the game and took control, with Mbonyumwami Taiba opening the scoring in the 18th minute. The in-form striker continued to underline his importance, taking his tally to 12 goals at that point.
Marines maintained pressure and doubled their lead just before halftime through Sibomana Sultan Bobo, capping a strong first-half performance.
After the break, the pattern remained unchanged, with Marines dictating the tempo. Taiba struck again in the 65th minute to seal his brace and extend the lead to 3–0, further strengthening his position among the league’s top scorers.
Mukura managed a late consolation in the 86th minute when Joseph Sackey unleashed a powerful long-range strike, but it did little to change the outcome.
The result sees Marines climb to eighth place with 36 points, continuing a steady resurgence after an inconsistent start to the season. Mukura, who came into the match ahead in sixth place, were left to rue defensive frailties.
Speaking after the match, Mukura head coach Nshimiyimana Pierre Canisius attributed the defeat to gaps in defense following the departure of key players.
The win also reinforces Marines’ growing strength at home, where they have remained difficult to beat in recent fixtures, turning Umuganda Stadium into a fortress.
