President Paul Kagame has warned that apologies alone are not enough if mistakes are repeated, stressing that effective leadership requires consistent accountability, professionalism, and tangible action.
Addressing a meeting of central and local government officials, President Kagame highlighted concerns over leaders who commit errors, apologize, and promise reform, only to repeat the same mistakes. He noted that this pattern undermines effective governance and slows national development.
He also pointed out that recurring mistakes often persist even when leadership positions change hands, indicating gaps in accountability and execution. According to the President, knowing one’s responsibilities is insufficient unless plans are consistently translated into action. Projects and initiatives can stall when objectives are not properly implemented, even when leaders are aware of the issues.
President Kagame urged all leaders to prioritize their duties, ensure that errors are corrected, and demonstrate meaningful improvements in their daily work, emphasizing that genuine change must be visible in performance rather than just verbal commitments.
