Volkswagen has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting it is planning to halt its operations in Rwanda, describing the claims as false and unfounded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company reaffirmed its commitment to the Rwandan market, clarifying that it has no plans to scale down or withdraw its investments.

Volkswagen said it will continue its core operations in the country, including mobility services, vehicle assembly, car sales, and after-sales support.

The company stressed that reports alleging an exit or reduction of its activities in Rwanda are inaccurate and should be disregarded.

As part of its ongoing expansion, Volkswagen announced plans to relocate its operations to a new facility in an industrial zone effective April 1, 2026.

It also revealed intentions to strengthen its presence by establishing a regional team to support the rollout of its mobility services strategy across Africa.

Headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany, Volkswagen is one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers, with a long-standing global footprint since its establishment in 1937.

In Rwanda, the company operates through Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda, launched in 2018. The subsidiary focuses on local vehicle assembly, innovative mobility services, and electric vehicle (EV) projects. It also operates the popular “Move” ride-hailing service widely used in Kigali.
