Pacifique Kabanda, Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau, on Tuesday opened a two-day high-level meeting of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation in Kigali, with a strong focus on reinforcing joint efforts to combat cross-border crime and emerging security threats.
The meeting has brought together senior law enforcement officials from across East Africa to assess progress in regional cooperation and chart new strategies to counter transnational crime, including terrorism.
Kabanda highlighted the progress made under EAPCCO in strengthening collaboration among member states, stressing that sustained and coordinated action remains critical as criminal networks become more sophisticated in an increasingly interconnected world.
He called on participants to intensify intelligence sharing, exchange operational experience, and adopt modern policing approaches to enhance the region’s capacity to prevent and respond to cross-border crimes.
The RIB Secretary General further underscored the importance of upholding EAPCCO’s core principles of unity, cooperation, and professionalism to achieve lasting security outcomes.
The meeting is expected to conclude with key resolutions aimed at deepening coordination among security institutions, in a bid to safeguard citizens and reinforce regional stability.
