Foreign revenue from Rwanda’s agricultural exports—including coffee, tea, fruits, and vegetables—has nearly doubled over the past five years, the National Agricultural Export Development Board reports, driven largely by coffee and tea sales.

Revenue from coffee exports rose from RWF 89.6 billion in 2020–2021 to RWF 169.4 billion in 2024–2025, while tea increased from RWF 131.2 billion to RWF 161.8 billion. Fruits and vegetables surged from RWF 41.9 billion to RWF 125.5 billion over the same period. Overall, agricultural exports generated more than RWF 1.1 trillion in 2024–2025.

Agricultural exports remain a key source of foreign currency, bringing in over $839.2 million (RWF 1.162 trillion) in 2023/2024 alone. Rwandan coffee, a premium global commodity, is further boosted by the PSAC (Promoting Smallholder Agro-export Competitiveness) project, which aims to plant nine million coffee seedlings on 3,050 hectares by 2029 to increase yield and quality.

Under the second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), Rwanda targets $1.54 billion in foreign revenue from agricultural and livestock exports by 2029, reflecting the sector’s growing role in the country’s economic transformation.

Coffee remains one of Rwanda’s top export crops, generating significant foreign revenue for the country.
