The Imbuto Foundation, in partnership with Mount Kigali University, has awarded certificates to 23 Early Childhood Development (ECD) caregivers, marking a significant step in strengthening the quality of foundational education in Rwanda.
The caregivers, drawn from community-based ECD centres, completed specialized training in early childhood service delivery, equipping them with practical skills to enhance child care, learning, and development within their communities.
The certification ceremony was held on March 25, 2026, in Kicukiro District.
Speaking at the event, Mount Kigali University Vice Chancellor, Simon Gicharu, announced a Rwf 51 million sponsorship to support 100 secondary school students under the “Edified Generation” program—an initiative aimed at expanding access to education for vulnerable learners.
The two institutions have maintained a strong partnership in advancing early childhood education. In September 2025, they jointly established an ECD centre focused on tackling malnutrition, providing foundational learning, and preventing child vulnerability.
The centre currently serves 169 children under the age of five, including 90 girls and 79 boys.
Since 2013, the Imbuto Foundation has worked with the Government of Rwanda and development partners to scale up ECD services, playing a pivotal role in expanding access to quality early learning and child development programs nationwide.
