Al Hilal SC dominates Bugesera FC, claims second spot in Rwanda Premier League

Al Hilal SC delivered a commanding performance over Bugesera FC on Wednesday, March 25, asserting their strength in away fixtures and rising to second place on the Rwanda Premier League table.

The rescheduled Matchday 18 clash, postponed earlier due to Al Hilal’s CAF Champions League commitments, saw the Sudanese side play without five of their key internationals. Despite this, they quickly imposed themselves, breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute through Omer Boshara, who capitalized on defensive errors to score with a powerful shot.

Al Hilal extended their lead early in the second half when Abdel Youssouf Kabore converted a long-range strike, putting the game beyond Bugesera’s reach. The home side pressed for a response, including a near miss by Sadick Sulley, but were unable to penetrate a disciplined Al Hilal defense. Late substitutions failed to change the outcome, leaving the visitors with a comfortable 2–0 win.

The victory elevates Al Hilal SC to 48 points, level with Al Merrikh SC but ahead on goal difference, while Bugesera FC remain 10th with 34 points.

Al Hilal’s performance reinforces a troubling trend for Rwanda’s top clubs, many of which—including Rayon Sports FC and APR FC—have struggled to win in Bugesera.

Next, Al Hilal will aim to maintain their momentum when they host Rutsiro FC on Saturday, March 28, at Stade Umuganda.
