Rwanda National Police, working with other security agencies, has arrested 11 suspects in an operation targeting theft in Nyabugogo, Nyarugenge District.

The crackdown focused on Muhima Sector, particularly the villages of Ubucuruzi, Intiganda and Indamutsa, where cases of night-time theft have been on the rise.

Residents and traders have reported frequent muggings, with victims—especially pedestrians—robbed of mobile phones and other valuables. At Kwa Mutangana market, traders say goods are stolen and customers targeted by individuals posing as porters.

The suspects are currently held at Muhima Police Station as investigations continue to dismantle the wider network.

Kigali Police spokesperson CIP Wellars Gahonzire warned that law enforcement will not tolerate criminal activity that undermines public safety and economic activity. He reaffirmed continued operations to secure Nyabugogo, a key transport and commercial hub.

Police urged residents to strengthen cooperation by sharing timely information on suspected criminals, while calling on traders to remain vigilant against theft and impersonation.
