The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has unveiled a revised public transport tariff structure, set to take effect on Monday, April 6, 2026, in response to rising fuel prices and increasing operational costs.
Under the new pricing, the Nyabugogo–Kamembe route via Huye becomes the most expensive, with passengers set to pay 11,445 Frw, while the alternative route via Karongi will cost 10,296 Frw.
In the Northern Province, fares for the Nyabugogo–Musanze route have been set at 3,821 Frw, while passengers traveling to Huye in the Southern Province will pay 5,068 Frw.
For the Eastern Province, the Nyabugogo–Kagitumba route in Nyagatare District will cost 7,900 Frw, while the Nyabugogo–Rusumo route in Kirehe District is priced at 7,029 Frw.
RURA said the fare adjustments are aimed at sustaining service delivery in the transport sector amid mounting pressure from global fuel price increases and other cost drivers.
Both passengers and transport operators have been urged to comply with the new rates to prevent disputes and maintain orderly service provision.
The regulator expects the revised fares to stabilize operations in the public transport sector and improve service efficiency as the country adapts to the ongoing surge in petroleum prices.
