President Paul Kagame has commended the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) for its decisive role in ending the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, emphasizing that no sanctions or external pressures can diminish the integrity, credibility, and professionalism of Rwanda’s security forces.
Speaking at the launch of the 32nd commemoration of the genocide and the 100-day period of remembrance, President Kagame highlighted that the exemplary conduct of the RDF stems from the lessons learned during Rwanda’s most challenging moments, shaping their professionalism both domestically and internationally.
Kagame also addressed recent sanctions imposed by the United States on RDF leaders, stressing that such measures cannot undermine the effectiveness and honor of Rwanda’s security institutions. He reiterated that the primary responsibility of the RDF and other security organs is to safeguard the safety of Rwandan citizens.
Reflecting on Rwanda’s post-genocide recovery, President Kagame underlined that the country has chosen to rebuild while rejecting any resurgence of genocidal ideology. He affirmed that the lessons of history guide the RDF’s commitment to peacekeeping and national security, earning respect globally.
The President’s remarks come as Rwanda continues nationwide activities marking the 32nd anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi, with programs aimed at teaching accurate history, countering genocide ideology, and safeguarding the country’s hard-earned unity and development.
