Rwanda’s Minister of Interior, Vincent Biruta, held talks with Congo-Brazzaville’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.

Biruta was in Brazzaville on April 14, 2026, for a working visit, where he was received by his counterpart. Their discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including mining.

The two officials also reviewed regional security dynamics, emphasizing a shared commitment to addressing emerging challenges through joint efforts.

Rwanda and Congo-Brazzaville enjoy longstanding relations anchored in diplomacy, trade, and security. Rwanda established its embassy in Brazzaville in August 2016, marking a key step in deepening bilateral engagement.

Earlier agreements signed in 2011 cover cooperation in air transport, tourism, energy, security, justice, environmental protection, and fisheries.

National carrier RwandAir has operated direct flights between Kigali and Brazzaville since 2011, facilitating business and mobility.

In November 2021, the two countries signed additional agreements spanning military cooperation, higher education, land management, sustainable development, environmental conservation, and trade promotion—further widening the scope of collaboration.

The same period saw Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) and Congo-Brazzaville’s SOPRIM (Société de Promotion Immobilière) sign a partnership deal to advance cooperation in housing development, urban planning, and affordable modern housing.

In 2023, Paul Kagame awarded President Denis Sassou Nguesso the Agaciro Medal during an official visit to Rwanda, recognizing his role in advancing Africa’s development and strengthening bilateral ties.
