The Prosecution in Rubavu has brought charges against five suspects, including a 43-year-old man accused of masterminding the killing of his 38-year-old wife.

According to prosecutors, the crime was committed on April 1, 2026, in Kinihira Village, Kibisabo Cell, Rambura Sector, Nyabihu District. The victim was reportedly ambushed and strangled by four young men along her way.

The four suspects have confessed to the killing, telling investigators they were hired by the victim’s husband. They allege he promised them Rwf 1.2 million to carry out the murder, reportedly over grievances linked to the couple’s inability to have children.

The husband, however, has denied the allegations during questioning.

All five suspects are being prosecuted for intentional homicide, an offence punishable under Article 107 of Rwanda’s penal code.
