Rwandan coffee has reached a new milestone on the international market, with one kilogram of specialty coffee processed in Huye District selling for $450, equivalent to approximately Rwf670,000, at the 66th international coffee auction.
The coffee was produced by K-Organics Ltd, based in Rwanda’s Southern Province, and fetched the price at an auction organised by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) on October 22, 2026.
The record price highlights growing international interest in Rwandan coffee, particularly high-quality beans that meet strict standards for quality and processing.
K-Organics Ltd Managing Director and owner Evariste Karangwa said the achievement would help advance specialty coffee production and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
“I am pleased with this price because it will help me further develop specialty coffee farming and improve the livelihoods of farmers in general,” he said.
A total of 31 coffees were selected for the auction from 320 samples received by NAEB. The selections were assessed by coffee quality experts.
NAEB Director General Claude Bizimana said the auction was intended to strengthen cooperation across the coffee value chain, from farmers to processors and exporters.
“What we are achieving today demonstrates the results of working together. Every price reached at the auction reflects the recognition of Rwanda’s exceptional coffee quality on the international market and the continued investment in developing coffee farming,” he said.
Buyers at the auction came from several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and countries across Asia and Africa.
NAEB says its annual Best of Rwanda auction recognises farmers, coffee processors and exporters by showcasing high-quality coffee.
The event also helps raise the international profile of Rwandan coffee, improve farmers’ prospects of securing better prices and strengthen the country’s coffee sector.
