Students in both primary and secondary schools across Rwanda have resumed classes for the third term of the 2025/26 academic year.
At the national level, the term officially kicked off at Groupe Scolaire Sainte Famille, located in Nyarugenge District in the City of Kigali.
The Director General of the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB), Nelson Mbarushimana, visited students at GS Sainte Famille on the first day of the term, urging them to study diligently, maintain full attendance, and avoid bringing mobile phones to school.
Mbarushimana also called on students to uphold Rwanda’s core cultural values—unity, hard work, patriotism, and integrity—especially during the ongoing 100 days of commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
He further held discussions with teachers, with both sides agreeing to strengthen daily student attendance tracking.
Students resumed the third term after a three-week holiday that began on April 6, 2026.
This final term will conclude with national examinations. Primary leaving exams are scheduled to begin on July 7 and end on August 9, 2026, while secondary school national exams will run from August 15 to August 24, 2026.
Groupe Scolaire Sainte Famille, established in 1913, is the oldest school in the City of Kigali and remains one of nine basic education schools operating in Nyarugenge District.
