Felix Namuhoranye has urged African countries to strengthen regional cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated action to address the growing threat of illicit small arms and light weapons proliferation.
He made the call while opening the 17th meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Regional Centre on Small Arms, a regional body that brings together member states to coordinate efforts against the illegal circulation of weapons.
The meeting serves as a key platform for reviewing progress made in arms control, strengthening cross-border collaboration, and aligning regional strategies aimed at curbing illicit weapons trafficking and misuse.
In his remarks, CG Namuhoranye stressed that emerging security challenges require deeper cooperation among states, particularly through timely intelligence sharing and harmonized legal and operational frameworks.
He warned that the region continues to face evolving threats linked to illicit arms flows, including increasingly sophisticated trafficking networks, local manufacturing of weapons, and the misuse of advanced technology in arms-related crimes.
The Police chief emphasized that sustained collaboration among member states remains essential to safeguarding regional peace and stability in the face of these growing and complex security risks.
