President Paul Kagame has hailed the Rwanda National Police for what he described as 25 years of exceptional service in safeguarding national security and ensuring that Rwandans live and work in safety, dignity and stability.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, during celebrations marking the silver jubilee of the Rwanda National Police, an event that also featured the commissioning of more than 400 new Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIP).
In a message delivered during the ceremony, Kagame commended both current and former police officers for their commitment, sacrifice and professionalism, which he said have played a central role in maintaining peace and public confidence over the past two and a half decades.
“I thank all police officers, both current and former, for the dedication and sacrifice that have enabled Rwandans to live and carry out their daily activities in the dignity and security they deserve,” he said.
The President also praised Rwandan police officers serving in international peacekeeping missions, including deployments in the Central African Republic, Mozambique and other countries, noting that Rwanda’s values of professionalism and discipline continue to shine beyond its borders.
“Beyond our national borders, these values continue to define your contribution in international peacekeeping operations,” Kagame said.
He noted that the achievements registered by the Rwanda National Police since its establishment were built on strong cooperation between security institutions, development partners and citizens.
“This culture of teamwork and the collective strength we possess must be protected and continuously strengthened,” he added.
President Kagame also welcomed and thanked foreign guests and security partners who attended the event from countries including Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Eswatini, The Gambia, Kenya, Liberia, Qatar, Seychelles, Botswana, Mozambique, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
“We share a common commitment to continue working together in safeguarding our security and the development that unites us,” he said.
Kagame further challenged the Rwanda National Police to continue modernising its operations and strengthening preventive policing approaches in response to emerging security threats and evolving forms of crime.
He stressed that investment in professional capacity building, modern equipment and advanced policing technologies remains critical to effective crime prevention and public safety.
During the event, the Rwanda National Police showcased some of the advanced technologies it is increasingly deploying in security operations, including Artificial Intelligence-powered systems used in traffic management, aerial surveillance and crime detection.
