Staff of Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday joined the nation in commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, with renewed calls to preserve its history and intensify the fight against genocide ideology and denial.

As part of the commemoration activities, the staff visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, where they paid tribute to victims and received a detailed briefing on the history, planning, and execution of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

The visit formed part of ongoing Kwibuka32 remembrance activities observed across the country and within various institutions.

Addressing the staff, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Olivier Nduhungirehe called on employees to take an active role in protecting the historical truth of the Genocide against the Tutsi, stressing that its preservation remains a central pillar of Rwanda’s foreign policy.

He further underscored the importance of confronting genocide denial and distortion, noting that safeguarding memory is key to preventing future atrocities.

Senator and former minister Amb. Dr. Charles Murigande, who delivered a lecture to the staff, also urged them to remain vigilant against any form of divisionism, genocide ideology, denial, and minimization, warning that such narratives threaten national unity and reconciliation efforts.

The commemoration continues to serve as a national moment of reflection, remembrance, and commitment to unity as Rwanda marks 32 years since the Genocide against the Tutsi.
