The Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), General Mubarakh Muganga, on June 4 received a delegation of students and instructors from the Indian Defence Services Staff College at RDF Headquarters.

The delegation is in Rwanda for a one-week study tour that began on June 1, 2026, aimed at enhancing their understanding of Rwanda’s military institutions, governance systems, and peace support operations.

Gen. Muganga welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation to the Indian Defence Services Staff College, noting the continued strengthening of cooperation between Rwanda and India.

He said the visit reflects the growing partnership between the two countries, built on mutual respect, friendship, and shared commitments to peace, security, and development.

“This visit reflects the strong and expanding partnership between Rwanda and India,” he said.

He further highlighted that the long-standing bilateral relationship has contributed significantly to the professional development of the Rwanda Defence Force, particularly through training opportunities offered to Rwandan military personnel in reputable Indian military institutions.

Gen. Muganga also underscored RDF’s commitment to expanding areas of cooperation between the two armed forces, especially as Rwanda prepares to establish its National Defence University.

The visiting delegation was led by Brigadier Rajneesh Mohan, Secretary of the Indian Defence Services Staff College, who expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to them in Rwanda.

He said the study tour had provided valuable insights into RDF’s professionalism, institutional development, and its role in regional and international peace and security operations.

Brig. Mohan also noted that the delegation gained a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s governance systems and the country’s development trajectory.

During the visit, the delegation received a detailed briefing on RDF’s evolution, its efforts to strengthen professionalism within the force, and its contributions to peacekeeping and regional security operations.

They were also introduced to Rwanda’s broader security architecture and RDF’s role in supporting stability and development across the region.

Rwanda and India continue to maintain strong bilateral relations supported by eight cooperation agreements covering key sectors, including defence, agriculture and livestock development, industrial park development, and other areas of mutual interest.
