President Paul Kagame has met with a delegation of constitutional experts from East African Community (EAC) member states, together with officials from the EAC Secretariat led by Deputy Secretary General Andrea Ariik Aguer, to review progress on the proposed East African Political Confederation.

The meeting, announced by the Office of the President on X, focused on ongoing efforts to develop a draft constitution that will guide the framework of the political confederation.

Discussions centered on the key milestones achieved so far in the constitutional drafting process, as well as the next steps required to accelerate regional integration within the EAC.

The proposed constitution is expected to serve as a foundational legal instrument defining how member states will cooperate at the political level, as the region moves toward deeper integration under the EAC Treaty.

If adopted, the framework would allow partner states to retain their national sovereignty and governments while strengthening coordination in selected political and governance areas.

The initiative is part of broader regional efforts aimed at enhancing cooperation, stability, and economic integration among East African countries through gradual and structured political alignment.
