President Paul Kagame has arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is attending the 2026 AI for Good Global Summit, a United Nations-backed forum focused on promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) for global development.
The summit, taking place on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, brings together heads of state, technology leaders, researchers, investors and international partners to discuss ways AI can be leveraged to address global challenges and improve people’s lives.
President Kagame, who was recently appointed Chairperson of the AI for Good Global Commission, is set to deliver opening remarks alongside Salesforce Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
The event will also bring together other global leaders, including Iceland’s President Halla Tómasdóttir and Estonia’s President Alar Karis.
Organised by the ITU in partnership with the Swiss government, the summit is being held under the theme: “AI for Good: Advancing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.”
Discussions at the summit are expected to focus on strengthening global cooperation around AI innovation, governance and the development of inclusive solutions in sectors such as healthcare, education, climate action and economic transformation.
The AI for Good Global Commission, chaired by President Kagame, comprises 44 members drawn from governments, international organisations, academia and the technology sector.
The commission aims to promote responsible AI adoption and advance practical solutions that ensure artificial intelligence contributes to sustainable development and benefits communities worldwide.
