President Kagame mourns death of Qatar’s former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

President Paul Kagame has extended his condolences to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family and the people of Qatar following the death of his father, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died at the age of 74, according to an announcement by Qatar’s Amiri Diwan.

In his message of condolence, President Kagame described the late Sheikh Hamad as a visionary leader whose leadership played a key role in transforming Qatar into one of the world’s most developed countries.

“Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will always be remembered as a visionary leader who transformed Qatar into an exceptional country among the most developed in the world,” President Kagame said.

He added that Sheikh Hamad’s commitment to serving the Qatari people and his efforts to promote friendship and cooperation between nations would remain a lasting legacy and continue inspiring many.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani ruled Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he handed over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who currently serves as Emir.
