Rwandan international volleyball referee Alphonse Ndayisaba has been appointed to officiate at the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship, scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, from August 6 to 16.

Ndayisaba, who also serves as Rwanda’s head of volleyball referees, departed for Chile in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, to join officials selected for the global tournament.

The championship will feature 24 national teams, including Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria, which will represent Africa.

The appointment marks another major international assignment for the experienced Rwandan official. In 2024, he officiated at the FIVB Boys’ U17 World Championship in Bulgaria, before taking charge of matches at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship in Uzbekistan in 2025.

After completing his duties in Chile, Ndayisaba is expected to officiate at the 2026 CAVB African Nations Championship, which will be held in the Democratic Republic of Congo from September 7 to 21.

Beyond his international assignments, Ndayisaba has officiated numerous domestic competitions and was among three Rwandan referees selected for the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Club Championship, hosted in Kigali in April and May.
