Prime Minister Dr Justin Nsengiyumva has challenged young Rwandans to turn the opportunities, knowledge and values they have acquired through Itorero Indangamirwa into practical action that contributes to Rwanda’s development.
Nsengiyumva made the call on Monday while closing the 16th edition of Itorero Indangamirwa, a 40-day programme held at the Gabiro Military Training Centre.
He urged the youth not to leave the lessons learned at Gabiro behind, but to apply them in their families, schools, workplaces and communities.
“Do not leave behind the values you have gained here at Gabiro. Take them with you to your families, schools, workplaces, among your neighbours and everywhere you go,” he said.
The Prime Minister said young people have significant opportunities to shape Rwanda’s future, but warned that distractions and temptations could undermine their ambitions.
“Often, you will find that doing the right thing will be difficult. That is where your values and patriotism will be tested,” he said.
The training focused on Rwandan values, the country’s history and the role of young people in national development. Participants were also trained in discipline, perseverance, teamwork and integrity.
Nsengiyumva said these values should guide the youth’s conduct as they pursue education, careers and other opportunities.
He noted that the participants have diverse talents, ambition and access to opportunities that can enable them to make a meaningful contribution to the country.
“You have everything you need to excel in your lives and in your country,” he said.
The Prime Minister urged the youth to live up to the confidence placed in them by their families and the country and to use their opportunities responsibly.
“I want you to leave here today feeling the confidence we have in you and carry it with you wherever you go,” he said.
The 16th edition of Itorero Indangamirwa brought together young Rwandans from the diaspora, graduates of international schools in Rwanda and selected youth from different districts across the country.
