Byusa Pacifique and Masengesho Yvonne claimed the boys’ and girls’ under-19 titles as Huye hosted the Rwanda Youth Racing Cup for the first time since the competition was launched in 2023.
The seventh round of the 2026 competition, organised by the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), brought together 107 young cyclists competing across five age categories, from under-11 to under-19.
In the under-19 boys’ race, Byusa of Les Amis Sportifs completed 35 laps in 51 minutes, 15.43 seconds to take first place.
Ishimwe Jean D’Amour of Bugesera Cycling Club finished second, just 0.46 seconds behind Byusa, while Shema Emmanuel of Les Amis Sportifs took third.
In the girls’ under-19 category, Masengesho Yvonne of Black Mamba won after completing 33 laps in 52 minutes, 3.68 seconds.
Uwizeyimana Uwase Ancille of Bugesera Cycling Club finished second, while Akimana Donatha of Ngarama Sports Academy took third.
Masengesho’s victory was her second in the competition, following an earlier win in June.
The under-17 boys’ race was won by Byiringiro Mubarak of Les Amis Sportifs, while teammate Liza Jehovah Julie took the girls’ title.
In the under-15 category, Igiraneza Thadee of LWD Cycling Team won the boys’ race, while Umutoni Alice of Les Amis Sportifs triumphed among the girls.
Umutoni also won the under-13 girls’ race, maintaining her strong run in the 2026 competition.
Among the under-13 boys, Habumuremyi Nisemusa Lucky of LWD Cycling Team finished first.
In the under-11 category, Fatingabo Mushambo Caleb of LWD Cycling Team won the boys’ race, while Ingabire Jacqueline of Bike for Future took the girls’ title.
The Huye round was the first time the Youth Racing Cup had been held in the Southern Province. Previous rounds had been staged in locations including Musanze, Kigali, Bugesera and Rwamagana.
The eighth round is scheduled for September in Rwamagana, according to the latest competition information.
