Rwanda earned $15.58 million, equivalent to nearly Frw22 billion, from exports of agricultural and livestock products in just five days, highlighting the sector’s growing contribution to the country’s foreign-exchange earnings.
Data from the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) shows that Rwanda exported 9,145 tonnes of agricultural and livestock products between August 31 and September 4.
Coffee was the top earner, generating $6.67 million from 961 tonnes exported. The figures reinforce coffee’s position as a key source of foreign exchange for Rwanda.
Tea ranked second, with 419 tonnes earning $1.28 million, while 270 tonnes of vegetables generated $991,055.
Fruit exports stood at 364 tonnes and generated $454,980, with key markets including the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and several African countries.
Rwanda also exported 10 tonnes of flowers, mainly to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, earning $50,898.
Livestock products generated another $425,294 from 295 tonnes, most of which were exported to markets across Africa.
The latest figures underscore the importance of agricultural exports to Rwanda’s trade performance, with coffee, tea, horticultural products and livestock continuing to provide significant foreign-exchange revenues.
