Rayon Sports reached the second qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup after holding Cameroon’s Panthère Sportive du Ndé FC to a 0-0 draw at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday.
The result left the tie level at 1-1 on aggregate, but Rayon Sports advanced after scoring an away goal in the first leg in Cameroon.
Rayon Sports needed either a win or a goalless draw to progress after the two sides drew 1-1 in the first leg.
Coach Haringingo Francis Christian kept the same starting lineup used in Cameroon, with Ibrahim Djingarey and Issa Djiguiba unavailable because of documentation issues.
Rayon Sports controlled much of the match and created several chances, but struggled to find the finishing touch. Iradukunda Elie Tatou was among the players who came close but could not convert.
The first half ended goalless, leaving Panthère needing a goal after the break to take control of the tie.
Rayon continued to dominate possession in the second half, while the visitors also created a few opportunities. Rayon goalkeeper Dande Junior and the defence kept Panthère from finding the breakthrough.
Haringingo brought on Muhoza Daniel and Tony Kitoga in an attempt to strengthen the attack, but Rayon still could not score.
The hosts came closest in stoppage time when Muhoza Daniel’s effort struck the post after he collected a pass from goalkeeper Marc Janvier Nomo Onguene.
The final whistle confirmed a 0-0 draw and sent Rayon Sports through on the away-goal rule.
Rayon Sports previously eliminated Panthère in the same competition in 2015, winning 2-0 on aggregate.
The Rwandan side will face Mozambique’s African Black Bulls in the second qualifying round. African Black Bulls advanced after eliminating Comoros side Atomic Ngomé 1-0 on aggregate.
The first legs are scheduled for October 16-18, with the return matches set for October 23-25, 2026.
