Rwanda’s national volleyball team moved closer to advancing from the group stage of the African Championship after defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) 3-1 in Tunis on Wednesday.
Rwanda won the opening set 25-22 before DR Congo responded with a 25-21 victory in the second set.
The Rwandan side, coached by Frédéric Guérin, regained the advantage in the third set, winning 25-21, and sealed the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth.
Rwanda faced a number of difficulties in reception and blocking, leading Guérin to rotate his players as he sought to strengthen the team’s defence.
Captain Dusenge Wicklif was Rwanda’s standout performer, scoring 27 points, including 22 through attacks, as his team secured the win at the El Menzah Sports Hall.
Rwanda will play its final group-stage match against Cameroon on Thursday, September 17, at 10 p.m. Kigali time.
The winner of the group will advance directly to the round of 16, while the remaining teams will compete in playoff matches for places in the knockout stage.
