Rwanda sports journalist and football commentator Nkurunziza Emmanuel, popularly known as Ruvuyanga, has announced his departure from Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) after eight years at the national broadcaster.
Ruvuyanga announced his resignation on Wednesday, September 23, through his social media platforms, thanking RBA management and his colleagues in the sports department for their time working together.
He said his eight years at RBA had helped him grow professionally and personally, adding that he had decided to leave the institution at what he considered the right time.
“I’m informing my followers and Rwandans in general that I have resigned from RBA, where I have worked for eight years. I thank RBA management for nurturing me and helping me grow in this profession,” he said.
He also thanked colleagues in the broadcaster’s sports programmes, particularly those he worked with on Urubuga rw’Imikino, acknowledging that disagreements that occurred along the way were part of their work.
Ruvuyanga did not disclose his next destination, saying his future plans would become known in due course.
He is known for his football commentary and for the phrase “Iki ntikigaruka,” which he would use when a team appeared close to scoring.
The journalist has also openly spoken about his support for APR FC, a club he has closely followed throughout his career.
Before joining RBA, Ruvuyanga worked for several Rwandan media outlets, including Radio Maria, Radio Huguka and Fine FM. He has spent about 12 years working in journalism.
At RBA, he was particularly associated with Urubuga rw’Imikino, a sports programme broadcast on Radio Rwanda, where he became one of the broadcaster’s recognisable football voices.
