Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) won top honours in football, volleyball and running competitions held on October 24, 2026, as part of celebrations marking United Nations Day.

In football, RWANBATT-3 lifted the trophy after defeating the UN House team 3-0 in the final.

In volleyball, RWANBATT-1 claimed first place, while RWANBATT-3 finished runners-up.

The awards were presented by Anita Kiki Gbeho, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for South Sudan and head of UNMISS, who commended the teams for their performances.

Meanwhile, Rwandan peacekeepers serving with RWANBATT-2 in Malakal, Upper Nile State, dominated the running competition held at the UNMISS headquarters.

The Rwandan soldiers secured first, second and third place in the men’s category, claiming all the awards in that division.

Alfred Orano, head of the UNMISS field office in Malakal, presented medals to the winners in recognition of their performances.

The competitions brought together personnel and peacekeepers serving under the United Nations mission in South Sudan, using sport to promote interaction and camaraderie as they marked United Nations Day.
