Mbabazi Shadia, popularly known as Shaddyboo, has expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of her case against Iradukunda Aimable, known as Yugi Umukaraza, saying she has not received the justice she believes she deserves.
In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Shaddyboo said she wanted to speak openly about what she alleges was sexual assault, arguing that her account had not been given the attention it deserved.
“I have not received the justice I deserved, but I need to speak for myself. I need to release this pain so that I can move on with my life,” she said.
She also rejected descriptions of her relationship with Yugi that suggested they could have been romantically involved. She said she considered him too young, both in age and maturity, to view him as a potential partner.
“People need to understand that this young man was much younger than me. In my eyes, he was still a little boy, not a man I could imagine being in a relationship with. I could never picture myself being in love with him. Never in my life,” she said.
Shaddyboo said she had previously supported Yugi’s ambitions in the entertainment industry, helping him as he sought to build a name for himself in music.
She thanked Ish Kevin for helping with the release of Yugi’s song Cheers, but said her efforts to support the young musician were followed by an experience that left her deeply hurt.
“I had been supporting him and helping him advance because he wanted to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry. I thank God for Ish Kevin, who helped me release the song he wanted to put out. But after everything I did to help him, he never appreciated it. And do you know what happened afterwards? He sexually assaulted me,” she said.
The mother of two described the alleged incident as one of the most painful experiences of her life. She said she was tired of remaining silent to avoid making other people uncomfortable and wanted the freedom to speak about what she had experienced.
“I have gone through many painful experiences involving different people, but what happened with this young man left me with the deepest wound. I am tired of staying silent and hiding my pain to make others feel comfortable. I deserve the opportunity to speak, and I deserve to heal and live again without this pain weighing on me,” she said.
How the case against Yugi unfolded
The case began after Shaddyboo accused Yugi of sexually assaulting her on the night of June 21, 2026. He was arrested on June 23, and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) subsequently forwarded the case file to the National Public Prosecution Authority.
Kicukiro Primary Court ordered that Yugi be remanded in custody for 30 days as investigations continued. However, the court found insufficient grounds to suspect him of sexual assault while determining that there were grounds to pursue a drug-related charge.
Yugi appealed the decision, but on August 18, 2026, Nyarugenge Intermediate Court dismissed his appeal and upheld the decision to keep him in custody.
He was released on September 3, 2026, after reaching an understanding with the prosecution and undertaking to reform.
In her latest statement, Shaddyboo reiterated that she continues to experience emotional pain over what she alleges happened to her. She said she needs the opportunity to speak openly about her experience as she tries to move forward with her life.
The allegations against Yugi remain allegations and should not be treated as proof of guilt.
