Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva has called on the Anglican Church of Rwanda to strengthen its contribution to national development by building safe, resilient families and improving the welfare of Rwandans.
He made the remarks on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during the consecration of the church’s new Archbishop, Bishop Dr Manasseh Gahima.
Nsengiyumva commended the church for its contribution to Rwanda’s development since it began operating in the country in 1925, particularly through education, trauma healing, healthcare and other social services.
“We greatly appreciate the Anglican Church of Rwanda for going beyond spreading the Gospel spiritually and continuing to play a significant role in the country’s journey of rebuilding and safeguarding its development vision,” he said.
The Prime Minister said Rwanda’s Vision 2050 seeks to ensure improved living standards, good health, prosperity and sustainable economic growth for all citizens.
Achieving these goals, he said, requires cooperation among government institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, religious institutions and citizens.
He urged the church to help protect lives by ensuring that worship activities take place in appropriate and safe premises that meet the required standards.
Nsengiyumva also called on the church to strengthen efforts to build families where members feel safe and uphold values that contribute to a stable society.
“What we all want is to have strong and safe families, where members uphold values befitting a good Rwandan,” he said.
He further urged religious institutions to improve programmes that prepare couples for marriage, ensuring that those planning to establish families understand and comply with the country’s laws.
The Prime Minister said preparing couples for marriage and promoting stable families were shared responsibilities of religious institutions and the government in advancing national development.
