The City of Kigali has ordered five commercial buildings in different parts of the city to temporarily suspend operations after inspections found that they had failed to comply with fire prevention and safety regulations.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the City of Kigali on October 30, 2026.

According to the statement, the buildings will be closed effective Saturday, October 31, 2026, to allow their owners to address the shortcomings identified during inspections.

The affected properties include Agakiriro ka Kabuga, Umukindo and Comejoga, all located in Gisozi Sector; ASMMS Ltd in Kicukiro Sector; and Gahoromani Market.

The City of Kigali clarified that owners of the affected buildings will not be allowed to charge tenants rent for the period during which the premises remain closed, until the required corrective measures have been completed.

Business owners operating in the affected buildings have also been urged to make alternative arrangements for their businesses before the closures take effect.

The city administration reiterated its call on building owners and managers to prioritise the implementation of fire prevention measures to protect lives and safeguard business activities.

It emphasised that compliance with fire safety regulations is essential in preventing accidents that could result in financial losses and loss of life.

The City of Kigali urged owners of commercial buildings to address all the identified shortcomings before the affected premises are allowed to reopen.
