Twenty-six senior officers from Rwanda’s security institutions have started a high-level training programme on defence management at the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Command and Staff College in Musanze District.
The training brings together officers from the RDF, Rwanda National Police, Rwanda Correctional Service, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the aim of strengthening leadership and strategic management skills within the security sector.
The programme started with a virtual learning phase conducted from July 1 to 12, 2026, before transitioning to an in-person session at the RDF Command and Staff College from July 13 to 23, 2026.
The training is the third edition of a newly established senior leadership programme jointly organized by the RDF Command and Staff College and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
It focuses on enhancing participants’ capacity in leadership, strategic planning, resource management, and decision-making to enable them to effectively oversee defence institutions and operations.
Organizers said the programme will equip participants with skills needed to manage security institutions and resources effectively during peacetime as well as in emergency situations.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen professional development and leadership capacity among Rwanda’s senior security officials.
