As Rwanda and the world mark the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, prominent East African artists are showing solidarity with the country.
Harmonize from Tanzania, Jose Chameleon from Uganda, and the Ugandan group Good Life joined Rwandans in honoring the victims of the genocide.
On April 7, 2026, Harmonize shared a 24-hour Instagram Story showing President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame lighting the “light of hope” at Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, beginning the 100-day remembrance period. Jose Chameleon also posted a Story highlighting Rwanda’s entry into Kwibuka 32, while Good Life, through Weasel Manizo, sent a message of support, declaring: “Never again.”
These artists’ ties to Rwanda extend beyond this commemoration. Harmonize has collaborated with Rwandan musicians including Bruce Melodie, Kenny Sol, and Marina, while Jose Chameleon and Good Life have performed in Rwanda multiple times and produced collaborative songs with local artists.
Their participation highlights the role of music in uniting communities, honoring memory, and reinforcing a collective commitment to peace and reconciliation.
