Rwanda National Police in the Southern Province, working with residents, has arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of being involved in the distribution and sale of drugs after he was found carrying 873 parcels of cannabis on a motorcycle.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Nyagacaca Village, Ruyenzi Cell, Runda Sector. He was taken to Runda Police Station before being handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for further investigation.
The Rwanda National Police spokesperson for the Southern Province, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hassan Kamanzi, urged residents to continue providing timely information about people suspected of selling or distributing drugs and others involved in activities that violate the law.
“We encourage residents to continue providing timely information about people suspected of crimes, including selling, distributing, using or injecting drugs, as well as anyone involved in any other unlawful activities,” he said.
CIP Kamanzi urged residents to avoid choices that could lead them into crime, stressing that those involved in such activities will continue to be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also thanked residents for providing information that has helped police and other authorities arrest suspects linked to drug-related offences, and called for continued cooperation.
“We thank residents who have continued to provide information, and we urge them to maintain this cooperation and share information in a timely manner so that together we can take measures to combat illegal activities,” he said.
Police continue to urge the public to stay away from drugs and report people involved in selling, transporting or otherwise facilitating drug-related activities.
