AEK Athens have returned to the UEFA Champions League after securing a 4–0 aggregate victory over Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia in the play-off round.
The Greek side sealed qualification on Wednesday, August 26, with a convincing 4–0 win in the second leg at home, following a goalless draw in the first meeting.
Rwanda international midfielder Hakim Sahabo is part of the AEK Athens squad, although he did not feature in either leg of the tie.
AEK’s qualification marks their return to Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since the 2018/19 season.
For Sahabo, the achievement adds another milestone to his European career after joining AEK Athens in February 2026.
The 21-year-old midfielder is now set to be part of AEK’s campaign in the Champions League, potentially becoming the second Rwandan player to feature in the competition after Joy-Lance Mickels.
AEK will now turn their attention to the Champions League league phase, where they will face Europe’s top clubs in the new 36-team format.
