New Sunrise FC head coach Banamwana Camarade has vowed to restore the club’s formidable home record at Nyagatare District Stadium, popularly known as “Gologota,” as the newly promoted side prepares for life back in the Rwanda Premier League.

The former Bugesera FC coach made the remarks as Sunrise launched pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, saying his ambitions will depend on strengthening the squad with quality signings.

“If I get the players I need, then I will confidently make that promise. A coach can make a difference, but success also depends on having the right players,” Banamwana said.

He revealed that recruiting at least six players would give him the squad capable of achieving his objectives and replicating the success he has enjoyed at previous clubs.

“If I secure the six players I have identified, I believe I can achieve here what I accomplished at Bugesera, Gicumbi, Ngoma and Kiyovu,” he added.

Banamwana also called on Sunrise supporters to stand behind the team, stressing that the club’s immediate objective is to establish itself in the top flight and compete for respectable league positions rather than fight relegation.

Sunrise FC earned promotion after winning the 2025/26 Rwanda Second Division League title, returning to the Premier League after a two-year absence following relegation at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Nyagatare-based club has already begun strengthening its squad following Banamwana’s appointment on a one-year contract.

So far, Sunrise have signed left-back Duru Ikenna from Gorilla FC, goalkeeper Mfashingabo Didier from Bugesera FC and winger Rashidi Mapoli Yekini from Amagaju FC, with all three committing to two-year deals.

The club has also renewed the contracts of midfielders Ndikumana Christian, Nyamurangwa Moses and Gatete Jimmy as it seeks to maintain continuity while reinforcing key areas of the squad.

With recruitment still underway, Banamwana hopes the combination of experienced additions and a settled core will help transform “Gologota” back into one of the most difficult venues for visiting teams in the Rwanda Premier League.
