Basketball: RSSB Tigers top Kalahari Conference, secure playoff spot in Kigali

RSSB Tigers, representing Rwanda at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) games in Pretoria, South Africa, have returned to Kigali after securing a spot in the playoffs.

The team arrived at the Kigali International Basketball Stadium on Monday morning, April 6, 2026, to prepare for the BAL playoffs, which will take place in Kigali in May 2026.

RSSB Tigers finished at the top of the Kalahari Conference, winning four out of five games in the group stage and losing only once. The top four teams from this group qualified for the playoffs.

The team won all four of its opening games, defeating Al Ahly of Libya, Petro de Luanda of Angola, Dar City of Tanzania, and Johannesburg Giants of South Africa. Their only loss came in the final group match against Nairobi City Thunder.

Player Leonard Craig Randall II led the conference in scoring, averaging 36.3 points per game, while Jackson Junior ranked among the top five in assists, averaging 5.8 per game.

The second group, the Sahara Conference, will be held in Rabat, Morocco, from April 24 to May 3, featuring Fus de Rabat (Morocco), Al Ahly (Egypt), Ville de Dakar (Senegal), JCA Kings (Côte d’Ivoire), Club Africans (Tunisia), and Maktown Flyers (Nigeria).

Four teams from each conference will advance, and all eight teams will compete in the BAL playoffs in Kigali from Friday, May 22, to Sunday, May 31, 2026.
