The Cabinet meeting held on Friday, evening, 28th November, approved a new public transport model in Kigali City, expected to help passengers move more efficiently.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, MININFRA, the new system will be launched in December 2025. It is designed to make public buses more reliable and environmentally friendly.
After its rollout in Kigali, the new model will later be expanded to other cities across the country.
Under the new system, buses will operate according to fixed schedules, and passenger flow will be managed using modern monitoring tools that track buses in real time.
This will ensure better deployment of vehicles where they are most needed, providing consistent and reliable service across all routes.
The Cabinet was also informed that this initiative aims to protect the environment and support Rwanda’s ambition to build a green, sustainable economy, as outlined in the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) and Vision 2050.
