Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Women’s FC and Tanzania’s Simba Queens made strong starts to their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifying campaigns with convincing victories in Kigali on Saturday.
CBE WFC, the 2024 regional champions, produced the biggest win of the tournament so far, crushing Djibouti’s FC Ujeco 11-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium. The result puts CBE at the top of Group B with three points.
Emush Daniel was the standout performer, scoring five goals, while Rediet Assresahagn and Lidiya Eyasu added two goals each. Tarikuwa Debiso and Etsegenet Girman completed the rout.
In Group C, former champions Simba Queens defeated Burundi’s Top Girls Academy 2-0 to also begin their campaign with three points. Aisha Mnunka opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Kusamfula Musakanda doubled the lead in the 80th minute.
The 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers are being held in Kigali, with the regional champion earning a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The competition continues on Sunday with two Group A matches involving Rwanda’s Rayon Sports.
Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan will face Zanzibar’s Mafunzo before Rayon Sports take on Eritrea’s Denden FC in the afternoon.
Rayon Sports opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Mafunzo, while Yei Joint Stars started with a 3-0 victory over Denden FC.
