Popular Rwandan DJ and media personality Iradukunda Grace Divine, widely known as DJ Ira, has revealed that her father’s prolonged illness pushed her to step away from her role at Rwanda Television.

Speaking in an interview with IGIHE Sports, DJ Ira said the emotional burden of seeing her father ill left her struggling emotionally, making it difficult to continue appearing on television.

She explained that she would often find herself crying unexpectedly because of the pain she was going through, fearing that the situation would eventually affect her while on air.

According to DJ Ira, the emotional distress became too overwhelming, leading her to suspend her television duties before her father eventually passed away.

Her father, Mbonimpa Juvénal, died on June 12, 2023, at the age of 67.

DJ Ira is among Rwanda’s most celebrated female DJs. She launched her career in 2016 with support from her cousin, renowned DJ Bissosso, who played a key role in mentoring and introducing her to the country’s entertainment industry.
