Dr Gahima Manasseh, Bishop of the Diocese of Gahini, has been elected to lead the Anglican Church in Rwanda, succeeding Bishop Dr Laurent Mbanda, who has headed the church since 2018.
Gahima was elected on Friday, September 11, bringing eight years of leadership under Mbanda to an end.
Mbanda, who took over the leadership of the Anglican Church in Rwanda in 2018, also served as President of the Global Anglican Council.
Gahima previously chaired the Conseil Protestant du Rwanda (CEPR), an umbrella organization representing Protestant churches in Rwanda, before being elected to lead the Anglican Church.
The 56-year-old bishop holds a PhD in theology and has served as Bishop of the Diocese of Gahini.
His election places him at the helm of one of Rwanda’s major Christian denominations as he takes over from Mbanda after his eight-year tenure.
