A fire broke out at Tic Tac Boutique Hotel, located in Kamatamu Cell, Kacyiru Sector, damaging sections of the building that house a nightclub and restaurant.
The blaze started at around 11:00 a.m. and quickly spread through parts of the property before police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to contain it.
According to a security officer present during the incident, the fire is believed to have been triggered by welding work being carried out in the nightclub section of the building. Sparks from the welding reportedly reached a gas cylinder that was in use, causing an explosion and igniting the fire.
“The fire started when sparks from welding ignited a gas cylinder, which exploded and sparked the blaze,” the officer said.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported, as everyone inside the building was able to evacuate safely.
While no one was harmed, the fire caused significant property damage. The nightclub section sustained the most extensive destruction, with the flames later spreading to the upper floor where the restaurant operates.
Officials are continuing to assess the extent of the damage.
