Colonel Désiré Migambi Mungamba, Head of Civil-Military Cooperation in the Rwanda Defence Force Rwanda Defence Force, has urged young people in Gatsibo District to uphold unity, reject divisionism, and avoid drug abuse, warning that such practices undermine social cohesion and national development.

He made the remarks on Friday while joining local leaders in activities marking the 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, held in honour of former leaders of the then communes of Murambi, Gituza, Muhura, Ngarama and Bwisige—areas now within Gatsibo District—who were killed during the 1994 Genocide.

The commemoration event paid tribute to victims while reflecting on the role of the former Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) in stopping the Genocide and ending the leadership that propagated ethnic division and orchestrated mass killings in 1994.

Col. Migambi emphasized the importance of unity and responsible citizenship, particularly among young people, calling on them to serve as positive examples within their communities by rejecting any ideology rooted in division.

He further encouraged the youth to embrace values of good governance and national development under the leadership of President Paul Kagame, while warning that drug abuse continues to pose a serious threat to youth productivity and wellbeing across the country.
