An elderly man who had been reported missing was found dead in Rushaki Sector, Gicumbi District, on Monday, with only his body recovered while his head was still missing.
Residents say the man had been missing for several days before his remains were discovered, confirming that he had been killed.
Police were alerted and quickly responded to the scene. Working with other authorities, they transferred the body to Byumba Hospital for postmortem examination, according to Northern Province Police spokesperson CIP Ignace Ngirabakunzi.
Police said the search for the missing head is ongoing, while investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
