Rayon Sports have reappointed experienced Rwandan coach Habimana Sosthène as assistant coach, reinforcing the club’s technical bench ahead of the new season and its continental campaign.
The club announced his return on Saturday, July 4, bringing back a familiar face who previously served as assistant coach in 2014.
During his first spell at Rayon Sports, Habimana worked under Belgian coach Jean-François Losciuto and French tactician David Donadei, both of whom had short-lived tenures at the club. Amid frequent coaching changes between 2014 and 2015, he also stepped in several times as interim head coach.
Habimana is among Rwanda’s most experienced football coaches, having managed Musanze FC, Sunrise FC, AS Muhanga and SEC Academy. He has also served on the technical staff of the Rwanda national football team, Amavubi.
His appointment comes as Rayon Sports strengthen their technical team to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) coaching requirements for clubs competing in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF regulations require participating clubs to have two assistant coaches who hold a CAF A coaching licence or an equivalent qualification.
Before Habimana’s arrival, Rayon Sports had only one assistant coach who met that requirement, Dusange Sasha, while fellow assistant coach Marcel Lomami did not possess the necessary CAF qualification.
