Inkundamahoro has reopened after its management began implementing measures to address hygiene and safety concerns that led to the temporary closure of the building, the City of Kigali announced on Tuesday.
The facility was closed on August 8, 2026, following an inspection that identified conditions considered to pose hygiene and safety concerns for people working in and visiting the building.
The City of Kigali said the reopening does not mean all the issues identified during the inspection have been resolved.
Management has been instructed to continue implementing corrective measures, including establishing a proper wastewater management system, ensuring daily collection and disposal of waste in accordance with regulations, repairing and repainting the building and carrying out other improvements to its condition.
“The reopening of the building does not remove the obligation to continue addressing the other issues identified,” the city said.
The city also reminded businesses and other people operating from the building that they have a responsibility to maintain cleanliness and safety in their workplaces.
Management of Inkundamahoro and other buildings, particularly facilities that accommodate large numbers of people, have been urged to comply with regulations governing hygiene, safety and environmental protection.
The City of Kigali warned that buildings or operators that fail to comply with the requirements or ignore recommendations issued following inspections could face penalties under the law.
The authority called on the public and businesses to play their part in maintaining hygiene and safety as Kigali continues efforts to promote a clean and safe urban environment.
