The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Deputy Force Commander, Major General Robert Yaw Affram, has praised Rwandan peacekeepers serving with RWANBATT-3 for their professionalism, discipline, readiness and commitment to the mission’s mandate.
Maj Gen Affram made the remarks on Tuesday, August 18, during a visit to the Rwandan contingent at its Durupi base in Juba. He was accompanied by officials from the UNMISS headquarters.
The UN official was received by the Deputy Contingent Commander of RWANBATT-3, Lieutenant Colonel Maurice Kayinamura, who briefed him on the contingent’s mandate, ongoing operations and key challenges affecting the execution of its responsibilities.
Affram commended the Rwandan peacekeepers for their continued contribution to UNMISS efforts to support peace and security in South Sudan.
He urged the troops to maintain their high standards of discipline and professionalism while remaining focused on their responsibilities.
The Deputy Force Commander also called on RWANBATT-3 to remain vigilant, adaptable and prepared to respond effectively to emerging security and operational requirements.
During the visit, Affram toured the Rwandan camp and inspected its operational equipment, capabilities and general working environment.
RWANBATT-3 continues to carry out duties under the UNMISS mandate, contributing to efforts to maintain security and support peace and stability in South Sudan.
The recognition adds to previous commendations of Rwandan peacekeepers serving under UNMISS. In March 2026, Affram also presided over a UN medal ceremony in Juba where Rwandan peacekeepers serving with RWANBATT-1 were honoured for their contribution to the mission
